Historical Significance
South Korea had been pushed to the peninsula of their country in a matter of months by the North. Their capital city, Seoul, had been captured, and the war seemed just about over. It was more than evident that the South Korean military was not strong enough to defend themselves, and luckily they were saved by UN intervention.
Canada sent over 26,000 soldiers to assist in the Korean War, which was more than some countries that nearly doubled their size. They fought in multiple battles and contributed in not only reclaiming Seoul, but crossing the 38th Parallel. All of their efforts benefitted the country in some way and earned Canada a positive reputation with South Korea that still lasts today, and benefits both countries.
In addition, the result of the Korean War holds a lot of significance as well. Korea now has a different border, and unfortunately North Korea now threatens the south quite frequently.
